Parent Checklist for Distance Learning and Blended Learning

Distance learning is teacher-led instructions that is provided through online resources.  Instruction may be synchronous (students and teachers interacting in real time) or asynchronous (students and teachers are communicating at separate times through email, online learning platforms, or online forums).  Students are enrolled at Legacy Prep and may access content outside of the school building.

Blended learning is where the student receives partial instruction in person by attending school and partial instruction is delivered through online resources that the student may access away from the school building. Students must participate and be actively engaged in both the in-school instruction and the online instruction to maximize their learning and reach all desired learning objectives.

Students will need self-motivation, time-management, and communication skills in order to do well in a distance learning or blended learning program.  As a parent, I realize it will be my responsibility to help my child with these skills.

As a parent, I will take the following actions on every distance learning day….

  • I will confirm my child accesses the distance learning plan every day.
  • I will support my child’s learning by providing a quiet space to learn.
  • I will help my child develop a checklist of tasks to complete and review it with them daily.
  • I will help my child contact the teacher if they are confused with the lesson.
  • I will know my child’s teacher’s office hours.
  • I will contact the school if I need to pick up my child’s school supplies or a paper-and-pencil version of the distance learning packet.
  • I will contact Legacy Preparatory Academy if I do not have WiFi access or we have trouble with connecting.
  • I understand it may be necessary to occasionally bring my child to the school building for in-person assessment.
  • I understand it is my responsibility to support my student’s needs.
  • Be respectful and understanding with teachers.

Teachers remain central to the learning process, working with students one-on-one or in small groups.  Teachers can use this time to build relationships, motivate students, reteach or review concepts, and answer questions on assignments and assessments.

Teachers at LPA will take the following actions on distance learning:

  • Mentor and coach students on strategies that encourage active learning, application, interaction, participation, and collaboration.
  • Promote student success through clear expectations, prompt responses, and regular feedback.
  • Utilize data to differentiate instruction and guide student learning.
  • Maintain availability in person or via e-mail, phone, etc. to promote regular feedback, timely response, and clear expectations.
  • Respond to students with special needs or different learning styles.
  • Understand and use a range of technologies that effectively support student learning and communication, while modeling legal and safe behavior related to technology use.
