For those interested in doing speech and debate we need to ensure that you will do well in the class.
This class will include:
- speaking in front of your peers
- researching a variety of topics
- learning how to defend your ideas
This class is:
- heavily dependent on speaking with others
- stepping out of your comfort zone
- speaking in front of others
- being an active participant when others are speaking
You do not have to have the skills already, just be willing to learn! The class is to help learn the skills, I need to make sure that you are willing to do so.
For those interested, you will need to make an appointment with Mr. Cogswell and present a two-minute speech on a topic of your choice. This is not to grade ability but your willingness to stretch yourself out of your comfort zone.
A class is to help you learn skills, I need to ensure you are willing to learn. We will set up a time before or after school, or during flex to give you an opportunity to show your stuff. For those not on Campus or who have health concerns, you may also submit a recorded video of your speech (it will be kept confidential). If there are more than 30 applicants the tryouts will be reviewed as well as the order they were submitted.
I will be thrilled to assist you in any way possible. My goal is your success and to help you build confidence in the skills for the class. This will be an amazing year and I can promise that you will learn a range of skills that will be worthwhile throughout the rest of your school career.
